The great full moon release. The freedom to heal our imperialist Mentality

The roar of the feminine

So liberating.

Dear ones, I am feeling the power of this full moon and you? Feeling deeper layers of awareness & surrender to a vision ushering a new reality. So much about our work is unearthing lost treasures, questioning our assumptions, re-envisioning an ancient future. My words are birds seeking freedom, echoing a forgotten song waiting to ring and flow through us all.

“Re-vision – the act of looking back, of seeing with fresh eyes, of entering an old text from a new critical direction – is for woman more than a chapter in cultural history: it is an act of survival. Until we understand the assumptions in which we are drenched we cannot know ourselves. And this drive to self-knowledge, for women, is more than a search for identity: it is part of our refusal of the self-destructiveness of male-dominated society.”

Adrienne’s words apply not only to text but space as well; we need to access space and language with fresh eyes. Yes. Space and language are carriers of life force, intention, energy, awareness. Furthermore, language and space are able to frame, shape, color, influence and reflect our views and experiences of life.

It comes as no surprise then, that our relationship with space and language reflects our imperialist mentality. Sadly, women are not exempt from patriarchy’s reach; in some ways, women are conditioned to become the harshest perpetuators. Sigh.

Internalized patriarchy

It sucks the life force out of you.

We oscillate between extremes, suppressing our nature by either undermining ourselves or falling into the trap of outdated models of power. Polarized, we still play within the dichotomy of oppressed and oppressor. Isn’t there another way? We keep on running old patterns, assumptions, conditioning made of scripts that become slips in our conversations, of a certain proud and unconscious naïveté. I am somehow not surprised when a man utters these words, but can’t help feeling appalled when a woman so readily submits to the patriarchy thinking she is empowering herself. These are the words that I have been hearing from the mouths of us women:

“I want to conquer my space.”
“Have you conquered any fear?”
“I want to conquer cancer.”
“True love conquers all.”
“I want to build an empire.”

This last one gets to me the most. I want to pull my hair. I ask: Do you really want to build an empire? Do you know what it involves? If we have learned anything from history is that empires rise and fall, that they are built on suffering, submission of the masses, and bad karma. Conquering gives us the illusion of power at the expense of freedom. Do I expect us to be more enlightened? Hell yes!

What is empire?
“The idea of empire has often been associated, sometimes in emotive or polemical style, with particularly aggressive, coercive, expansionist, hierarchical, and indeed racist forms of power.…a large, composite, multiethnic or multinational political unit, usually created by conquest, and divided between a dominant center and subordinate, sometimes far distant, peripheries.”

Imperialism remains embedded not only in society but in the architecture of the individual’s psyche. We seek control of our bodies, of our minds, of our souls. We have internalized this ugly conquering business.

There are other ways…

Re-envisioning our narrative,

A power, language & space that is born from the feminine.

We might think that we are free of this conquistador mentality, but all we need to do is notice the way we speak, the slips that plague our speech to realize that we are not broken, but our narrative is, corroded by shadow power ideologies ingrained in the way we live, inhabit, dwell, relate and fail, under the guise of success.

At one point we realize that both our language and our architecture are inadequate, that we need to recover, re-imagine, evolve along with our creations to facilitate the emergence of a new world.

If we want to evolve our logocentric discourse with its dissonant course leading us astray, we need to shift our space and language, release our conquistador mentality, open our hearts to let go of all that has oppressed our souls.

Another way of communicating & dwelling

I don’t believe in conquering anything, even fear. I believe in the courage to act, be, and sing our song in spite of fear; we call this courage.

Nowhere is perhaps this will to conquer more evident than in the way we have usurped and violated space, land, territory. We are upsetting the balance of life.

How do we disarm and dismantle this patriarchy, this empire embedded in our own psyche, body & space? In the words of Arundhati Roy:

Our strategy should be not only to confront empire, but to lay siege to it. To deprive it of oxygen. To shame it. To mock it. With our art, our music, our literature, our stubbornness, our joy, our brilliance, our sheer relentlessness — and our ability to tell our own stories. Stories that are different from the ones we’re being brainwashed to believe.
The corporate revolution will collapse if we refuse to buy what they are selling — their ideas, their version of history, their wars, their weapons, their notion of inevitability.
Remember this: We be many and they be few. They need us more than we need them.

Dear ones, I realize in my work that many of us don’t know what our real needs are, and it becomes increasingly difficult to truly see, and even more so create environments that respond to these needs when we remain unaware of them. Everything carries medicine, a lesson, a message, a teaching to steer us in the direction of our truest path.
